What Guests Say About the Xochimilco & Frida Kahlo Tour
"Hits the highlights we wanted to see without having to battle traffic in a car, which seemed worth it alone. I didn't realize how much there was to see at the Frida Kahlo Museum, so it was best that we didn't sign up for the lunch because it would've cut our time there short. Our guides were friendly, prompt, and informative, and our bus driver was excellent at navigating everywhere."
"The guide was careful to describe the tour in English so that non Spanish speakers like me could understand. Xochimilco was magnificent though a bit crowded. It was nice to see some of the ancient agriculture systems passed down from the Aztecs still in use."

"we had the tour without food and entrance to the museum. the bus was on time. the guides were very competent. they shared a lot of information especially on art and history. it was a big and confortable bus. the first stop at the jewelry manufacture was quite short, they were not at all pushing into buying something. xochimilco was well organized. the afternoon we spent at coyoacan. as we did not have the meal and the museum, we had plenty of time to explore the neighborhood. all in all recommendation! p.s.: for the tour operator: one small thing that could improve: increase the price of the tour by USD $5,- and include the mariachi band. this would save some discussions on the boat and would be fair for all"
"Had a good time at the tour, Giovanna was a great guide"
"We had already been to the Frida Kahlo museum, so both the boat ride at Xochimilco and walking around the streets of Coyoacan were great. I personally would have skipped the silver shop."
"Fantastic tour! The tour guide, Hector, is very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful! Truly a must visit and tour! Learned a lot!"

"5 out of 5. A full day out with lots of interesting stops. My favourites were Coyoacan and Frida's house. it's a great way to meet people from all over the world. Alan was a fabulous guide, checking we were ok and making sure we were happy. This tour is an absolute must."
"It was a really fun trip. Lili & Albaro eere so helpful and kind. We felt really welcomed and really enjoyed the time in Mexico!!"
"Guides Hector and Miriam were very good at explaining the need to know Mexico history especially as it pertained to the stops along the way. We originally thought most of the trip would be the canals and Coyoacán with Freda Kahlo Casa Azul to finish. However, we also stopped at a silver jeweler shop and to see the murals at the prestigious Mexican National University. Every stop was given context to its history and contribution in the world. The party vibe of the canal boats was fun but the interesting history of the Aztec waterways could have been expanded. The options to pay extra for drinks, music, food and flowers was pretty aggressive.Being able to see the Kahlo hacienda was interesting. We had a bit of time to walk in Coyoacán and will return there. It is very colorful and refreshingly calm. The Mercado was bright and welcoming too. We were ferried around on a huge bus skillfully driven by Antonio which was fortunate since most of the day was spent in the notorious CDMX traffic."
"Alexa was perfect we had so much fun. It was a whole day trip and there was no second when we were bored. She shared really interesting information about Mexican history. We really recommend the trip, it’s absolutely worth it!"

"well organized, punctual, Enrique our driver drove carefully and got us there safely and back, Lili was excellent ...very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly."

"Very Informative and entertaining trip! Our Guide Lilli and our bus driver Enrique took real good care of us through the whole day. Very passionate and excited through the whole trip! They took us to 3 beautiful locations across Mexico City and took us right back where they picked us up. Amazing Day experience."
"This was a great day out! Our guide Alan was fantastic and made the whole day very engaging. Be prepared for some changes to the schedule - we went to Tlatelolco first which wasn't in the itinerary (I think?!) but was a very nice bonus and Alan gave the best guided tour there out of the whole day. The silver workshop had lots of nice things to look at. Xochimilco was fun but I would have loved to spend more time there (you basically just get overwhelmed with people trying to sell things to you, such that you can forget to soak in the beauty and history of the place) and I felt this part of the tour was lacking in the guided-information part. We unexpectedly hit heavy traffic on the way to UNAM so we ended up just doing a drive-by tour of the campus, which was nobody's fault. Coyoacan was lovely and more time there would have been great but it was nice to have some downtime at the end of the day (we didn't go to the museum and we ate lunch by ourselves at a different restaurant)."
"Alan was a fantastic guide - he was engaging and incredibly knowledgeable! We appreciated his recommendations. The tour itself was incredible. We’d highly recommend this excursion for anyone interested in learning about Mexico City’s rich history, Frida and Diego, and many more interesting people."
"el guía super Genial (Alvaro) y nuestro motorista en tiempo y firma. la experiencia fue inmersiva, muy bonita y completa. Gracias. muy recomendado"

"It was interesting and fun. The guides were very knowledgeable about all of the sites. The only way to improve would be to have meeting places after each activity."

"Una excursión muy recomendable!!!!! El guía Eleazar y el chofer Tomás son muy atentos y profesionales. Gracias por hacernos sentir como una familia!!!!!"

"Tuvimos el tour con Fernanda y Miriam, y la verdad que fue una excelente experiencia. Muy profesionales en cada actividad. El tour muy completo y con tiempo libre suficiente para conocer los mercados principales. Nos ha encantado!"

Everything you need to know before booking your xochimilco frida kahlo tour
The Frida Kahlo Museum — La Casa Azul (Blue House) — is located in Coyoacán, a historic neighborhood in southern Mexico City at Londres 247, Barrio del Carmen, Coyoacán. It is Frida Kahlo's former home and studio, now a world-famous museum displaying her personal belongings, folk art collection, and original works. The tour picks you up from Centro Histórico and drives you there directly.
The Frida Kahlo Museum in Coyoacán is approximately 12–14 km south of Mexico City's historic center (Zócalo). By public transport it takes 45–60 minutes; by car or coach roughly 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. The tour includes round-trip transportation from 5 pickup points in Centro Histórico, so you don't need to navigate CDMX traffic yourself.
The Frida Kahlo Museum (La Casa Azul) is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 am–5:30 pm (last entry 5:00 pm), and is closed on Mondays. The Casa Kahlo (Red House), the newer museum, has similar hours. Entry tickets sell out frequently — especially on weekends. Booking through this tour includes guaranteed entry and a digital guide, saving you the queue.
Yes — Xochimilco is one of the most unique experiences in Mexico City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient canal system (chinampas) dates back to the Aztec era. A trajinera boat ride takes you through flower-lined waterways with floating food vendors, mariachi boats, and vivid Mexican scenery. Most visitors say it's a highlight of their entire CDMX trip.
Renting a trajinera at Xochimilco independently costs around MXN 300–600 (approx. $15–30 USD) per hour per boat, but you'll need to arrange transport to and from Xochimilco separately and navigate the embarcaderos yourself. This tour bundles Xochimilco with Coyoacán, the Frida Kahlo Museum, and UNAM for $52 total per person — far better value, plus a certified bilingual guide throughout.
A trajinera rental at Xochimilco runs roughly MXN 300–600 per hour ($15–30 USD), booked at the embarcadero. Vendors on the water sell food, drinks, and flowers separately. On this guided tour, the trajinera ride is included in the $52 price — you share a large decorated boat with the group and your guide narrates the history of the chinampas.
Yes — Xochimilco's main tourist embarcaderos (Nuevo Nativitas, Fernando Celada) are safe, well-organized, and busy with international visitors. As with any major city, standard precautions apply: keep valuables secure, stay with your group, and avoid isolated areas. This tour is fully guided — your certified guide and driver handle all logistics, making it the safest and most comfortable way to visit.
Xochimilco is famous for its ancient canal network — a surviving remnant of the chinampa (floating garden) system built by the Aztecs centuries ago. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside the historic center of Mexico City. The trajinera boats, colorful and often named after women, are iconic. Xochimilco is also known for its weekend atmosphere of mariachi music, food vendors, and family celebrations.
By Metro and Tren Ligero: take Metro Line 2 to Tasqueña, then Tren Ligero to the Xochimilco terminal (about 1.5–2 hrs total from the center). By Uber or taxi: roughly 40–60 minutes and MXN 150–250, depending on traffic. The easiest option is this tour — pickup from your hotel or a central meeting point is included in the $52 price, and your guide handles all the routing.
Coyoacán is consistently rated one of the safest and most pleasant neighborhoods in Mexico City. It has a low crime rate, a strong local community, and a heavily tourist-visited historic core around the Jardín del Centenario plaza. The tour visits the daytime pedestrian areas — cobblestone streets, the market, and La Casa Azul — all of which are considered safe for international tourists.
Comfortable walking shoes are essential — you'll be on cobblestones in Coyoacán and stepping onto and off the trajinera. Wear layers: mornings in CDMX can be cool (15–20°C) while afternoons warm up (25–28°C). Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a light rain jacket (afternoon showers are common). Cash in pesos is useful for optional purchases from the floating vendors at Xochimilco.
The Blue House (La Casa Azul / Frida Kahlo Museum) is Frida's actual childhood home and lifelong residence — an intimate, personal museum displaying her original artwork, personal belongings, diary, jewelry, and the famous four-poster bed. The Casa Kahlo (Red House) is a new, modern museum with immersive multisensory exhibitions about her life and legacy, using reproductions and contemporary storytelling. This tour lets you choose which one to visit when booking.
